So the biggest thing started when I was little, while I was in eighth grade. I was playing basketball and hit my front tooth on somebody’s head. And so after a day or two it started turning black.
So it wasn’t necessarily hurting, but then I ended up having a root canal and a crown and then ended up needing to straighten my teeth. And so my cousin actually was a dentist. And so we went to him, he did the root canal, did the crown, started straightening everything up and just kind of gave me a different outlook on going to the dentist.
I’d always enjoyed going to the dentist. And, but after that, it just became something I was interested in. So I started shadowing him later on.
And, and then actually my brother’s a dentist as well. So he’s a pediatric dentist. I would say now the most rewarding part of my job is really when somebody comes in and is embarrassed to smile.
They’ll tell me, hey, I don’t really smile for family pictures anymore. Hey, I’m just embarrassed. I know it’s been a while.
We’re here to help them. So we go through the whole, whole exam of trying to get them to be happy with their smile, to be excited to smile again. And to see somebody come in at their first appointment and then all of a sudden, you know, six months, you know, however long it takes to get them there, they’re just beaming with excitement.
And I’m like, hey, I can’t wait to show my family and friends. I can’t wait for the, for the next family reunion. I think really just the fact that they’re part of our family.
Everybody that works here, we’re, we’re a big work family. We spend more time together than we do with our own families. And so at the end of the day, I want our patients to say, hey, that’s my, that’s my dental family.
We’ve shared stories with each other. We’ve, you know, we get to know about their kids getting married. We get to know about their grandkids being born.
We get to know about their favorite trips and what all is going on in their life. So at the end of the day, just having them say, hey, we love the people that we go to their, to the, to the dental office for, and they love us and they know us. And we’re, we’re all, all a family.
